Hotpoint is a market leading company which has been around since 1911; its aim was to produce the finest goods that are essential in the home. It is now owned by an Italian company Indesit but it is still known as Hotpoint in the UK and Ireland. It was in 1920 that it became joined with the US with the company General electric, this was to make the company Hotpoint Electrical Appliance Company and their aim was to market General Electric products in the UK. Hotpoint’s first appliance was a toaster.

One model which will certainly make you stop and stare is the Hotpoint Combi Quadrio FF4DX which has the sophistication by adding the stainless steel to make the kitchen look contemporary. The one element of this fridge freezer is its size; it gives you 300 litres just for the fridge and 110 litres for the freezer. It comprises of 4 safety glass doors, 2 salad crisper drawers and huge door storage. With the freezer being 2 large drawers it is easy to put in all your items at once. There is an added function of Supercool which reduces the temperature of the food inside to make it level with the food going in, and then it has a Superfreeze function enabling it to get to the optimum temperature.

Another great feature which has been developed is the Deodorizing filter which makes sure that there is nice fragrance being released when you open the freezer. One common pet hate with a freezer is the old smell of the ice.

Alongside other brands Hotpoint makes sure that is has the right anti-bacterial protection to stop any bad bacteria forming. As for the rating all Hotpoint fridge freezers are ‘A’ rating to ensure you get more for your money and the environment.

If you don’t have a chiller for your wine and beers then there is no need to worry because in majority of the models there is a shelf to keep all your bottles fresh and refreshing after a hard day’s work.

Smeg was created in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni and the name originated from Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla and this was a metal enamelling factory in Italy. The company is still owned by the Bertazzoni family today with the chairman and CEO Roberto Bertazzoni.

Smeg is known for its design and aesthetic look for its appliances, it offers a variety of different ranges: Piano, Classic and 1950’s Retro Style. All of these have a very different look and come in a brilliant range of colours.

Let’s start with the Piano range; this is a very elegant and simple look. It looks almost like a long kitchen cupboard or pantry door. It holds one handle and is completely square. With the dimensions of 60cm (W) x 66.5cm (D) x 187cm (H) and it holds 351 litres which is plenty for a family. It has very quirky features in that it has neon lights inside the fridge, a LED temperature display and an Audio alarm. This comes in Blue, Red and Cream.

The Classic range has a very bold style in that it is very square a sturdy. This range is stainless steel which gives a very smart look in the kitchen. An added feature is an alarm on the door when you open it. As standard there are safety shelves, fruit and vegetables compartments, chiller section and in some of the models a pizza/ice cube compartment in the freezer.

The 1950’s Retro Style has the distinct design because it has the curved edges around the outside; it has retro colours – baby blue, red, orange, green, black and pink. The handles are on the fridge and the freezer and in the style of the 50’s and the brand ‘SMEG’ is in a font that represents this era. In this range there is a chrome wine rack, a covered storage part, 2 drawers in the freezer, pizza/ice cube compartment, 2 thermostat compressors and the total capacity is 330 litres.

All Smeg fridge freezers are ‘A+’ energy rated so you do not need to feel bad about the environment or your electric bill.

Whirlpool was founded in 1911 and it celebrates its 100th Year this year (2011). Whirlpool is an American brand and its headquarters are in Michigan. Whirlpool is now a global manufacturer of house hold appliances such as washing machines, refrigeration, tumble dryers, dishwasher, air conditioners and microwave ovens.

As all the fridge freezers on the market at the minute Whirlpool has a little gem which makes their fridge freezers different from the rest. Whirlpool has decided to use 6th Sense Technology – this is a cutting edge feature which gives your fridge freezer a mind of its own. The way it works is simple; the technology detects when there is a difference in temperature in certain areas in the fridge. When the area has been established the chilled air is then directed to the affected area and makes sure that the levels are correct.

In cooperation with Microban Whirlpool and incorporated the Anti-bacterial filter into their products. This stops the horrible odours that you get from the bacteria in fridges and purifies the air which is circulating round.

Another innovative design is the Easy Twist Ice and Storage, this has been taken on board by a lot of manufacturers because it saves using ice trays, ice bags and getting your hands all cold. This is an effortless way to get ice, you put cold water into the storage and the ice cubes form, once this is done you twist the knob and the ice is released.

Cooler compartments are becoming very popular also because it is specifically intended for meat and fish to keep it fresh for longer. These are important produce that cannot be at the wrong temperature.

Another great concept is the Pizza balconies these are the best way to store that Friday night pizza or ready meals. The balcony is a part in the door which can sit a pizza upright, this can then make sure that it does not take up any room in the main freezer compartment.

Whirlpool fridge freezers offer large space for the family and provide solutions to the common problems we face with keeping our food fresh and cool.

Samsung Electronics is a company which started in South Korea in 1969, it started by manufacturing calculators, televisions, refrigerators and air conditioners. Just after the company was started Samsung joined with the Japanese NEC Corporation to produce audio visual devices and electrical home appliances. By the 1990’s Samsung was the biggest company in South Korea, in 2010 Samsung Electronics was 22nd in the World’s Most Reputable Companies 2010.

Samsung fridge freezers go above and beyond to make sure that they have the best products on the market, with their revolutionary technology and innovation they produce the best.

One of the latest models from Samsung has LED lighting and ‘A+’ rating, it also has an LCD display to allow you to change the temperatures in the fridge freezer. A real treat is the CoolSelect Zone which allows you to change particular compartments in the fridge if there are special groceries which need specific temperatures such as fish, exotic food or fruit. Another feature which is so revolutionary is the foldable shelves in the main fridge; with this you can change the state of your fridge from day to day. These shelves can change size to fit larger items and also provide the spill-proof function which enables easy cleaning. One more function is Power Freeze this lets you freeze items very quickly these could be seafood items.

A lot of the Samsung fridge freezers have the No Frost ability which means there are no more days where you have to sit and defrost your freezer all day. Multiflow cooling is another operation which makes sure that the temperatures are consistent throughout.

A very good mode to have is Vacation Mode, this is reassurance that when you go away on holiday you know that all of your food will be safe in the freezer and kept at the right temperature for a long period of time.

The twin thermostat method allows people to store their fridge freezers in the garage if they do not have room in the house. This twin thermostat allows them to store the appliance in cooler places rather than a heated home.

Beko is a Turkish brand which was founded in 1955, it is known as Arcelik in Turkey. Anywhere outside Turkey the brand is known as Beko. Arcelik produced its first appliance the washing machine in 1959, first refrigerator in 1960 and by 1999 it has created vacuum cleaners, dishwashers and cooking appliances. It is now a very reputable brand with products available in all large retailers.

Beko are a popluar brand and this is because they provide a perfect appliance with the right price tag, they make sure that they are of a high standard but an affordable price. With different colours, sizes and type you are bound to find your perfect fridge freezer.

A model which is an example of Beko’s standards is the CDA672FS and this has a massive capacity to suit a large family – 341 litres in all. With this in mind you can fit all your fresh food and a lot of your frozen food. An advantage which is offered with this model is the spill-proof shelves because this can be the bug bear of the fridge if something is spilt. It leaves that horrible smell and is very hard to clean. The 3 shelves are also movable which is flexible for those bigger items. A common feature which Beko like to incorporate is the water dispenser at the front; this provides chilled water at your disposal. There is the option to have reversible doors if you have a particular place to put the fridge freezer. With the twin thermostat, the fridge freezer can be kept in a garage.

All Beko fridge freezers are ‘A’ energy rated which is economical and efficient for the customer.

Some of the Beko models provide a double twist and serve ice cube tray which is more useful way to get your ice. An evaporator in the fridge allows cool air to circulate with the cold wall technology and cyclo-pentane insulation. There are also refrigerators with a wine rack which can actually hold 5 bottles of wine with a beautiful chrome finish. In case of a power cut some of the models allow up to 21 hours storage time.

Beko Fridge Freezers

One of the longest brands in the household appliances industry since 1886 is Bosch, a trade name which has provided all the necessary white goods which we all need in life. When buying one of these items you know that you are going to get the best and this is because of the research and perfection that is put into each and every product.

All Bosch fridge freezers are all ‘A’ rating, this means that they are more efficient for the environment and will save you money when using it. A new function which has been introduced in the last few years is Frost Free which has created a perfect solution for saving people time when defrosting their fridge freezers. It stops all the excess ice and frost so all your food is easily accessible.

An attribute which really makes Bosch stand out from the crowd is the anti-bacterial protection which allows you to be convinced that your food is stored correctly and safely. In some of the Bosch models such as the Exxcel there is another function which makes them differ from the rest and this is the Multi-airflow system, this prevents the humidity from travelling between the fridge and the freezer.

Another advantage is that now there are bottle holders, vegetable containers, egg holders and shelves in the main compartment. These have changed from the fridge freezers from years ago and provide a more modern way of life.

An additional extra which gives the Bosch range a bit more of the wow factor is the Chiller Safe compartment designed specifically for meat and fish only. With this option you know that you meat and fish is going to be kept at the right temperature at all times. If you thought this was good then there is a new section in the fridge which is the HydroFresh drawer which is created to keep the salad crisp and fresh.

If you want to make sure that all of your food is completely safe then you can have an option to keep them cool for 17 hours during a power cut.

It’s top features are it’s ability to cool quickly when needed and the power the freezer section has. Now this may make you think it may be an energy thirsty appliance however it also came out top when compared to similar appliances from rivals. It also has a full no frost function which means you don’t need to defrost the freezer at all. Another neat little feature iis the anibacterial protection that is on the sides of the fridge, meaning it prevents bad bacteria building up.

When it comes to purchasing a new fridge freezer or appliance there are countless models, sizes, options and designs to look into, however there are some tips and advice you can take in order the get the right appliance for you and the space that you will put it in.

The first option to consider is, do you want a fridge with a freezer at the bottom or on the top, this may be affected by the area you will place the fridge freezer, how often you use the freezer or fridge section or your personal preference. (You may be used to having the freezer section at the top and so you wish to keep it at the top just out of habit). Alternatively you can have the fridge next to the freezer, these are known as american fridge freezers .

More often than not fridge freezers have glass shelves that come out very easily and means you can clean them with no problems, this is important as a clean fridge means a healthy fridge, which will work more efficiently. Also frost free fridge freezers prevents ice building up on the freezer section, this means that you won’t have to spend hours defrosting every so often, these types of freezer are very popular however they can mean that foods in the fridge that aren’t covered or in air tight containers will dry out.

The second important factor when purchasing a fridge freezer is to check that it is energy efficient and you can do this by looking at the energy rating by using our simply guide you can find the most efficient appliances, which means less global warming and less energy costs for you.

Many of the newest models have additional settings that you may not have heard of, some allow for a super cool or fast cooling setting which means it will cool food faster, this is popular and used when you place a large volume of warm food in, often when you have done your weekly shopping. This means it will all be cooled down faster and you food will last longer. Other features include alarms which are set off when the food inside the fridge gets too warm.

You must make sure that when you are searching for a fridge freezer you weigh up all the features that you think are needed and crucial then the ones that you’d like but could live without, then when you search for the crucial features you can see what appliances at what price, then you can make an informed decision and get the appropriate appliance.
