Energy Efficiency Rating

Energy Rating It is now a legal requirement for manufacturers and retailers to show consumers the energy efficiency rating and the energy consumption figures that appliances use. These include white goods such as fridge freezers, ovens, light bulbs, washing machines and more.

If you select an appliance with a good energy rating then it will be more efficient and will save not only money but also the environment as it will use less power and thus reduce the pollution that derives from creating the power in the first place.

Every single white good appliance in the UK and also in the EU now must have a label on it that describes the energy efficiency rating it has and the energy it actually consumes in a measure of kWh. If your appliance is rate G then it is the least efficient appliance and if it is rated as A++ then it is the most efficient available and thus will save you in the future on bills. Below is an example of a label of a fridge freezer with a rating of 'A' which is very efficient. As of 1999 manufacters are not making any appliances which are rated 'D' or below and so your more likely to find appliances from 'A to D' rating.

Figures from the Energy Saving Trust say that by purchasing a fridge freezer with an energy rating of A++ then average person can save £39 per year on bills. If you want to find out more about energy saving then visit the government's website: http://www.defra.gov.uk
